The disadvantages of a
mind map
Are there
disadvantages?
Yes, as a matter of fact there are some,
although they contain some advantages in them as
well.
you cannot copy a piece of
text out of a mind map; it just doesn't exist.
It's all about branches containing keywords. But whatever info
you're using out of a mind map, due to the fact that these
keywords were formulated by you or by consensus with your team,
when you use these words they will sound like it's your work or
ideas. This is because you can visualize and formulate the
words in such a way that they really sound like they are
yours.
Sometimes it happens you want to
redraw
a mind map. This means you'll have to start all over
again. But what is the problem with that; it will be a
good rehearsal and it will improve your memory on this
topic.
By definition a handmade mind map is unique.
This means that lots of people will have trouble
interpreting your mind map. But if you copy this mind map
and pass this mind map to this person and you give
him/her an explanation it will actually increase the
level of understanding of the listener. Mind maps are
great for preparing an essay, summary, text or
presentations. But I wouldn't use it as a final document
which you hand to you exam master; that wouldn't work at
all!
Let's go to the comparison text vs mind
map page.
